i know smut memes are a mixed bag and there are plenty of people with nsfw icons, but shouldn't there be some rule against putting things like graphic gore in an icon used in a top-level thread? it's a lot more disgusting to see crap like this than it is to see a pair of badly drawn anime titties:

Thanks for bringing this to our attention - given that user icons can't be linked or put under a cut, gore there would be hard to avoid.

I can ask if the commenter can edit their comment so that it shows a different icon.

could you guys please tell [personal profile] forsocksake and others not to do modified image urls for their memes? a lot of people (myself included) block them because we have limited internet or older pcs and their images used a dw url to bypass any tumblr image blocking. in order to block it, though, you would end up blocking all user icons or dw domain images. it's sketchy and shitty.

You're referring to the indian in the cupboard gifs, right? I'll ask the poster to change the links in the post, and provide them with imgur urls if that works for you?

I've looked through their previous posts, and this meme seems to be the one that uses the p.dreamwidth.org links - I can ask them to try and avoid that in the future.

they've been doing this weekly. they've been trying to make it a weekly thing. this is not on the schedule and saying 'must be thursday' and posting it weekly isn't going to cram it into the legit schedule. it's not a popular meme and it would be nice if they'd stop pretending like it needed to be posted that often and on their randomly picked schedule.

Frankly, I don't see what the issue is. Just because you don't personally like it doesn't mean it shouldn't be posted weekly for those who do enjoy it. It's not breaking any rules by existing.

I don't know where exactly to post this but TFLN has been filling up pretty quickly for the past few weeks and often seems to qualify for an overflow post. (I think the policy was if it hits >5000 comments within 24 hours?) I was wondering if people can post overflows without mods saying so first or if there needs to be a mod post giving the okay.
thelongcon: (Default)

[personal profile] thelongcon 2016-11-01 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Linked: related mod post

People could post an overflow once the original post hits 5000 comments and it hasn't been a day* since it was posted as it's clearly outlined in the rules. (*Please check the time stamp and time zone) Of course, if people aren't sure, they can always ask one of the mods before posting.

Thank you for bringing it to our attention, sorry it took a bit of time to address.

As per community rules, not having a method of contact, be it through PM or comments will also result in being blocked from posting, though that can be lifted if the user enables some method of contact.

I can ask the poster to resize it to 500 px wide, which is the image size limit set for the comm, though I'm not sure if coding for the background gif can be tweaked to be fully under cut.

I'll ask.

Hello mods! I just wanted to pop in and say I've posted a texts from hell meme because the idea seemed pretty interesting! I understand there are a lot of texting memes already and I don't want to step on any toes, so if I wanted to post it again in future I wanted say I'd be more than willing to adhere to a schedule based on popularity whether it be weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, bi-monthly because no one wanted this, whatever. Thank you for your time!

i feel like [personal profile] dousing is posting too many memes lately. two within a minute of each other, for starters. i know there used to be a rule about posting too many memes or meme spamming, and when we've slowed on memes like we have, it's more obvious that they're posting too often.

possibly ask them to keep it to one a day or one every couple days? i understand there's not a rule about frequent posting anymore, but if they want that many memes, maybe they should make their own comm and post a crosspost with one or more meme links on it instead.

Hello, I've checked out the links, and they're different memes - one is the TFLN "Texts From Last Night", and the other is TGIF, "Thank gods it's friday (yay weekend)" meme

They do look similar in name though.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-15 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
i'd like to make a request that if the word association meme reaches captcha before 24 hours that an overflow post can be put up, just like the tfln meme. the fact that it's a monthly meme instead of weekly means it builds up pretty damn quickly, and not being able to play in it half a day after it goes up means you miss it for the month is pretty shitty.
thelongcon: (Default)

[personal profile] thelongcon 2017-03-15 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
From past posts, the word association meme doesn't really hit captcha, which is at 5000 comments

See this link

ETA: it also looks like the meme poster wants to be contacted if you're looking for an overflow post.

Is there a reason why the TLFN meme has been going up earlier and earlier every week? It's a bit annoying and it's been messing up with people's ability to tag.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-17 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
i've felt this way about the smutty picture prompt meme for months. it's supposed to be a sunday meme, but they wait until midnight their time (which isn't always midnight all over the world) and then post it. so sure, it's a 'sunday meme', but it's posted on saturday night. tfln is going to do the same thing and wind up getting posted midnight on thursday night, if this keeps up. i really wish meme posters would slow their roll and post the fucking memes in the afternoon/evenings of the days they're supposed to be on.

makes me feel like they're doing it so 'they' can post it for some weird meme cred or something instead of posting for the people that want to play the meme.

just as you post the weekly round up, the sunday meme goes up before it's even 12 on their time, as their posting time tells me it was 11 something and it's only 9 something for me now. please ask that poster to slow down and stop jumping the gun. they've been pushing the time limit way too often, and with this being something talked about, it would be nice to see them acknowledge it.

[personal profile] thelongcon 2017-03-19 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

I'll message them about this, and remind them to check their time stamps. And also of the consequences that can result. I used to post close to midnight, though rl changes have caused me to put the round up earlier.

Regarding last night, they did post past-midnight comm time (going by post order, and the way this journal uses the default dreamwidth time). Their timestamp shows their own timezone, which can be confusing.

[personal profile] thelongcon 2017-04-11 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree in that they're all different flavors of an overarching theme - but they each cater to their own niche, and tweaked to those specific genres.

A combined meme with offers all those options as prompts would be a good solution to so many of them cropping up, though that may come with its own issues, and as mentioned above - memes that are extremely alike/clones - are the ones that shouldn't be posted so closely.

People enjoy shipping, that's why so many memes get posted. There are others which I personally find to be more similar to each other than those listed, and get posted on a regular basis.

could you guys make a rule about not hosting meme images (in the initial post) via dw? if i block sites like giphy and tumblr it's no big deal but if i block all images hosted by dw, it also blocks icons.

also maybe a rule against more than two images in the post? does it give any value to the meme or do anything other than kill the memory on phones or make people have to block additional images?

(Anonymous) 2017-04-17 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
um, no? too fucking bad, man. if it's easier for a poster to host it on their own dw account, too bad for you blocking it. block that image, not the image site. you can block single images. you're expecting an entire comm to cater to your preferences.

same with images. some of them are appropriate for the actual meme. it doesn't have to give value. by your standards, why have images/gifs at all?

at this point, you need to rethink you being on bs.
