Please let me know if there are any issues of spam, harassment, or general asshattery going on at [community profile] bakerstreet.

this might be splitting hairs question: would it cause posting schedule problems or any kind of problems for the mods if the tuesday texting meme were ever changed back to the format that offered both smut/ship and gen options? is "sexting on tuesday, gen texting on sunday" hard and fast like "tfln on friday" is, or is it more up to the community/poster based on what they want to offer?

thanks for your time!

ayrt here though others are welcome to weigh in!

the reason i'm asking, myself, is a discussion i got into with some players when the gen text meme originally went up last week and was taken down. a gen-preferring player was discouraged by the wait; it was posited to recombine the two memes in the fashion of the forgotten text meme: http://bakerstreet.dreamwidth.org/2864023.html, encouraging people to specify if they'd prefer only one type of interaction. if that's something that the mods don't mind trying, i don't mind posting it; i'm not one to keep hammering away at a failed idea so if it fails, too, that's fine by me! if it ultimately sounds pointless, you can shoot it down too and i'll go put the sexting one up (unless another sock or meme poster gets there first. i'm pretty shocked they haven't already). i just didn't want to step on any toes or seem like i'm trying to make a stand out of it haha

there was a gen meme on sunday. the tuesday one is pretty much standardly for sexting, and it generally gets a lot of play because a lot of people look forward to a weekly sexting meme. you can do what you feel like, obviously, but as the mod did mention and it's been brought up before, there are plenty of reasons to keep smut memes separate from shipping/gen ones.

i tag into a sexting meme because i want sexting threads. i don't want to tag into a basic meme and go looking for chars and oops, well, they don't want this and they don't want that and okay well, fuck this meme. smut is for smut and gen is for gen for a reason, because people have preferences. if someone's in a smutty mood, they're not going to want to scroll through possibly pages of gen to find a smut player. just like people shouldn't feel like they have to scroll through pages of smut to find a shippy or gen player.

they're scheduled for a reason and co-opting it because one or two people want what the masses don't feels pretty rude, imo. keep gen on sunday and smut on tuesday. it's already a set pattern and people know what to expect.

ayrt

like i said, if it's not to peoples' tastes, i'm not going to keep doing it. if it catches on, great, if not, i'm fine with that too. i'm not trying to take anything away from anyone. if i have any intention i suppose it's to lessen the sense of division between smut and gen that results in PA behavior in meme posting. i wanted the option out there for everyone to get along together and be able to find what they're looking for in one place. so on the need to scroll, we have different viewpoints, but i can see where you're coming from.

all that said, i have no plan to post any texting meme next tuesday (or sunday) or to prevent anyone else from doing the same. everyone has a chance to post what they want and play what they want. i think of a combination meme as a place where they can do that but if i'm alone in that, i can admit failure.

subject line was supposed to be "also in reply to anon below" i could just log onto memepasta but whatever

Not a problem, but I was wondering if the mod team had considered creating tags for at least some of the more popular memes that tend to show up on a regular basis.

Sometimes I specifically want a certain meme and it would be really convenient to have an easy way to check when it was last posted. (Also could make it easier for people to check when a meme was last posted to abide by the rules about frequency of posting.)

Like general category tags - such as prompt memes or texting memes or ones that are more specific, say insomnia, sexting, tfln?

Because it's a good suggestion - though non-comm members who post entries won't be able to tag their posts themselves. And not everyone choose to use the tags that are available to the comm.

That doesn't mean we can't add them in after the fact.

I was thinking of specific, but either way could work. Maybe general for ones that have a lot under them, like texting, but specific for ones that aren't as easy to categorize like insomnia meme. Or both. TFLN for example could have tags of texting and tfln.

A mix of both seems best, if a tag system does get implemented.

If there are any in particular you think should be included, feel free to leave more suggestions than the previous examples!

I'm not sure, I'd have to scroll around a lot. Mostly I'm thinking the main ones that cycle through on a regular basis, it would be good to tag for easy finding and pacing.

Off first page for example maybe jailpet, pet person, family?, texting, high school, anon kiss dare, morning after, insomnia...

Might be easiest to just start from 'now' as popular memes get posted and see what tags end up existing.

it's been discussed elsewhere, but another reason to keep smut separate from gen/shippy/fluff, is purely because of content. if you go into a multi meme, you have no idea what might crop up on your screen. at least if you go into a smut meme, you know what you're setting yourself up for. and for people that have others around them or are in a public place, it's good to know that you can open a meme and not see a giant cock or something nsfw. this is extremely relevant for the picture prompt memes, but it can also extend to the sexting/texting memes, since some of the sexts start out with dirty pictures, or really explicit language.

it's not fair to gen only or fluff only people to see some of the really extreme things that can happen in a smut meme (can happen, not always), and it's not fair for smutty players to have to scroll through a meme to find one or two chars that are looking for what they are and potentially get brought up on wg or something for 'posting smut to a non-smut specific meme'. yeah, yeah, wg, who cares, but still. separating it helps keep the bitching to a minimum for all parties.

please discuss with the meme poster of the smutty picture prompt meme the last few weeks to wait a bit longer to post it. they're tossing it up before the meme round up, which makes it list as a saturday posting and not every timezone is sunday at the time of the post. it's scheduled for sunday and they're jumping the gun. all they have to do is wait a few more hours.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-31 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
okay, so, once i can see that happening, but it's been 3 weeks in a row now and they're doing it at around 8-9pm pst time. because 'it's sunday somewhere'. they're rushing to be the first to post it and they don't need to be. it's a sunday meme. if it's consistently getting posted on saturday, it's no longer a sunday meme.

thank you.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-31 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
it's 12 to 1 pm where i am when it gets posted, so idk why one time zone gets favored over the other?

(Anonymous) 2016-07-31 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
and of course by pm, i mean am. i'm a goober.

The comm is in EST.

It'll help to keep things consistent if we stick to that.
